We made it to the 2nd trimester!

Today was such a fun and exciting day! First off, I am officially in my 2nd trimester! Yay! We had our first perinatal appointment this morning. We really liked the peri my OB referred us to. She was very friendly, bubbly, knowledgeable and just seemed to sincerely enjoy her job which makes us very happy. She has this HUGE flat screen T.V. (probably 36 in.) mounted on the wall so I don't have to strain my neck to see her monitor. It was great! They almost looked life-sized on that T.V.

All the babies look great. They all are measuring the same...12 weeks 1 day. All the measurements she took to check for potential problems like down syndrome came back normal. They also all have good heartbeats. It was so neat to see them moving around. I saw their movement at my last appointment, but this was the first time Craig was able to see it and he had a grin on his face from ear to ear. Oh...and we even saw one of the babies kicking the other baby in the head...I can't remember who was kicking whom, but it was so cute!

Dr. Koster looked to see if she could tell what their sexes are and she is 90% sure of the sex of the babies...

TWO GIRLS AND ONE BOY!!!!

Baby A is predicted to be a boy! He is leading the pack, at the bottom, closest to the cervix and currently expected to be born first.

Baby B is predicted to be a girl, and is expected to be born second.

Baby C is predicted to be the 2nd girl, and is expected to be born last.

Of course, their positions could change, but for now our son is leading our trio. Baby A & B liked posing for the camera, as you can probably tell, they are looking right at us. A couple of times they had their hands up in the air like they were waving. Oh and we were even able to see and count all five fingers on one of their hands. It is just such an awesome feeling watching them kick their legs and wave their arms around. We are so thankful that they are doing so well.

Our second appointment for the day, we went for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Nivens, my OB. All we did was check my blood pressure, weight, urine and I had a little blood drawn to test for cystic fibrosis. My blood pressure was great, BUT... my weight is a concern. Dr. Nivens is concerned I am not gaining enough weight. Apparently, I have only gained 1 pound. I could have sworn I started out less than they said which would put me at gaining 4 pounds. You would think with all this tummy stretching, there would be more weight gain than that. She is recommending that I see a nutritionist. Who would have ever thought being thin and not knowing how to gain weight nutritiously would be a bad thing. She wants me gaining around 25 pounds by week 25 which is only 13 weeks away. That is kinda scary when I think about being currently 12 weeks pregnant and only gaining one measly pound. I know most don't put on much weight in the first trimester though. Nivens is a little concerned about pre-term labor so I am going to have to figure something out. And just so everyone knows, I don't have any emotional hangups gaining the weight, I just don't know how... I am not a big eater. It is hard to just up and change your entire eating habits you know. If anybody has any good ideas, please let me know.

On another note, I ordered the cribs today! Yeay! That can be checked off my list. Now I am going to try to focus on getting some kind of idea of how I want to do the nursery. If anybody knows of a good baby nursery website for multiples, please let me know. I bought a baby nursery magazine, but I don't really like any of their ideas. I've looked online some and found some cute ideas. Also, I think I have the bedding picked out, so I will use that as my color inspiration for the room. We aren't really doing any theme...I am not a theme type of person.

I also have my weekly boring belly shot to leave you with. Maybe I should post those first, so you won't be left with my belly shot in your head. :) Last week, I think Friday, I literally could feel my belly grew just in a matter of hours. It was so crazy! I know it wasn't something I ate that made me feel full because I hadn't eaten in a while. It just grew really fast!

Oh...BTW, we decided not to sell the Jeep and decided to sell Craig's Saturn instead. Just so you know in case you know somebody who was interested in the Jeep. Maybe they will be interested in the Saturn... :) It will be a lot cheaper to buy!! :) For those of you who have seen it, you will know why. :) Not that it is a piece of junk, it is just older and has more miles on it. It's a good car though.

Car seats and cars and cribs oh my!

I have been so bad keeping you updated with everything lately. It has been so busy. Nothing has really changed with me or the babies; we are still doing very well. This past week, I have been very busy researching and shopping for the much needed baby essentials.

I guess my week started with crib shopping. My mother in law and I spent an entire day shopping for only cribs. I did find one I like. It is nice looking, sturdy and of smaller scale. It isn't a mini crib but it doesn't have a lot of fancy headboards that would take up a lot of space. I found this crib in 3 different locations, but haven't decided which store I am going to go with.

This is the crib and the color I think we are going to go with. Let me just tell you about my crib experience with this one store. We had been shopping around and came across this store in Richardson called "You and Me Babe". We had already seen the crib at another store in Plano but it was more expensive. The Richardson place had the lowest price, but I was so suspicious of her. My mother in law mentioned that we had seen the crib elsewhere and the lady started with the 20 questions. She kept asking us over and over again... "where did you see this crib? What is the name of the store? Where are they located? What was their price?" Over and over again she kept asking me the same questions. She was VERY pushy which completely ticked me off. I didn't think it was very professional of her to question her customers so many questions like we were on trial or something. Actually, I think she was suspicious of us. I think she thought we were her competition spying on her to get her prices etc. We left there and there was no way I was doing business with her. Of course, Craig wanted to put up with her to get the better price. Which I said, "when the deal goes south because she is shady, you can deal with her, not me." Sometimes in the long run, it is worth paying a little more for good service; the best deal isn't always worth the hassle. A few days later, I called the woman to find out how much she requires down when ordering the beds. And once again, she would not give me a straight answer. I think I forgot to tell you earlier that when we were in the store, I asked if she gives a discount for multiples (because most places do) and she would not answer my question. She kept dancing around it saying "that is the best price you will get. You won't beat that price." I kept asking her again and again..."but, do you offer a discount for multiples." I just wanted to know if her price included a discount or not. Anyway, back to the down payment part... I called the store first and got two different answers from a different lady who answered the phone. First she told me they require payment in full, then she said 50% down. When I talked to the owner a little later, she danced around it for a while, rushed me off the phone to call the manufacturer about my cribs and when she called me back she had already ordered the cribs even though I hadn't told her to and still didn't know what the down payment policy was. Then, she finally tells me 75%, which I of course was leery about. She tried to justify the 75% by telling me the beds would be in in a week, but I don't believe that. Two other stores told me 6-8 weeks on that crib. So, when she told me she put the cribs on the order, I told her I wasn't sure I was ready to order and I was going to possibly order the changing table also. Then, she said she could call them back in the morning to add to the order. At that point, I knew she had just lied to me because at first, she led me to believe she already placed the order (maybe to push me into the sale), then when I mentioned adding the changing table to my order, she changed her tune saying she could add to it the next day. I went ahead and ordered it verbally over the phone and called her back a little bit later to see what her return policy is. Considering I am still in my first trimester and carrying triplets, I thought asking about the return policy was a legitimate question. So, I asked her how she handled that situation if a customer had a miscarriage and had to cancel their order. Most people have some sort of restocking fee ya know... When I asked the question she sat there in dead silence for a few seconds and then danced around the question again. She said she has never had a problem with that before. WHAT? She is going to try to tell me in the 20 years she claims to be in the baby furniture business that nobody has ever had to cancel. I don't think so. I guess I might entertain the idea due to the fact that most people probably don't order so early in their pregnancy, but most aren't carrying triplets either. At this point, I cancelled my order (and she gave me the guilt trip because she had already ordered it) and told her I would wait a few weeks until I was past my first trimester and give her a call. I found this awesome book called "Baby Bargains" and it has really good information about everything from cribs to car seats to strollers to bottles and formula. It gives really good information about how to shop for these things, what to look for in each thing a baby needs, what to watch out for with consumers etc. Prior to my last conversation with this lady, I had just read that the norm for buying and ordering cribs is 50% down and anybody who asks more than that is desperate for money and you should be suspicious of. It also talked about how these specialty stores can get so hostile if they think you are price shopping. I think that is ridiculous because regardless of what you are shopping for, you are going to try to find the best deal unless you have all the money in the world which we do not. So, we will not be buying our cribs from her; it will be one of the other places. Sorry this got so long, I thought it was worth mentioning so hopefully anybody else who needs to do some crib shopping will have a heads up.

I have also been researching car seats a lot this past week. Reading some consumer reports and the Baby Bargains book has really helped me a lot. There are so many to choose from and it is probably the most important thing we will buy. It can be very overwhelming. I think I have narrowed it down to two--the Graco SnugRide or the Baby Trend Flex Loc. These car seats got the best rating and still passed Consumer Reports crash test at 35 mph which is not the minimum requirement. Also, these aren't the most expensive car seats on the market but seem to be the best so that is a plus.

As you know, we have also been car shopping for the past 3 or 4 weeks now. It has been very stressful because we couldn't decide what we wanted to buy and Craig and I couldn't agree on how much we wanted to spend. We started out planning to buy a minivan but then decided against the minivan because the biggest minivan on the market is the Dodge Grand Caravan which doesn't have comfortable seats and the third row seats are made to sit at an angle (the part your butt sits on, not your back). We had also been told by numerous people that they had a lot of problems with those cars breaking down etc. and that the third row was a nightmare for car seats with the slanted seat. Basically the seat isn't at a 90 degree angle like most cars, its more like a 45 degree angle. Then, we drove a Chrysler Aspen which we liked but decided against because of the price and we weren't comfortable with buying Chrysler. Then, we drove the Nissan Pathfinder which we really liked everything about it except the seat was too small for Craig. The seat wouldn't go back far enough for his legs to not be cramped up. They told us they could take the seat out and re-bolt it down further back but that wouldn't leave enough room in the back for the car seats. We then drove a Nissan Armada, Craig loved it but it was too big for me. I literally had to guess where the curb was in the parking lot because I couldn't see over the dash. It was huge! We drove a used Dodge Durango at the Nissan dealership which was in very good condition but the seats were uncomfortable, just like the minivan, it drove a little rougher than the other large SUV's, it had more road noise and it had a nice little annoying rattle in the car. By this point, we did know one thing for sure--we were not buying anything Dodge/Chrysler. We drove a used Tahoe that Craig saw for sale (for sale by owner). We really liked it, I could see over the dash and everything worked for both of us. I thought we were going to buy this Tahoe because it was in our price range but it was a very basic model. We would have to add several things to it so Craig continued on researching. We went to a Chevrolet dealership Saturday and drove a couple of new Tahoes and we really liked them, but of course, it didn't go through because we couldn't agree on a price. We headed to another Chevrolet dealership to see what they could offer us. We couldn't find the dealership right away, but we saw a GMC dealership and stopped in just to see what the Yukons drove like. We knew the Yukon is practically the exact same car as the Tahoe, so we felt were sure we would like them. We didn't figure we would be there very long because we can't seem to get what we want for the price we want. Much to our surprise, they had a Yukon with lots of upgrades that fit our needs perfectly. We were able to get a very good deal on it, so we bought it! We found a car!! What a huge load off! I am so glad the car shopping is over--all the walking, the heat, the car salesmen, the haggling back and forth, the long hours. We were car shopping for 10 hours Saturday and only went to 2 dealerships. I am so glad that is done!

Here is a better picture.

We are selling our Jeep Cherokee ourselves, so if you know anybody who is interested, send them our way. It is an 03 with 70K miles.

Also, my 11 week belly shot...it still looks about the same.

10 week sono pics...a week later...

We got our scanner working again and we think we figured out what was causing the scanner not to work, so hopefully this will not happen anymore.

Baby A & C were moving around a lot, but baby B was pretty still when these sonos were taken. It was so neat to see them moving around so much. This last picture (baby C) is the only baby that I can actually see the arms and it looks like he/she is looking out at us. The other two...I can't really tell. We have our 12 week appointment with the perinatologist Thursday. We are excited to see how much they have grown and Craig can't wait to see them moving. The doctor may be able to tell us what the sexes are or give us a good idea.

10 week update

I went to a M.O.M.'s meeting earlier this week and it was very nice to be able to get tips and ideas from other M.O.M.'s and see how they did things. Although, it was all a little overwhelming because there was a lot going on. We had our expectant moms meeting first, then all the moms came together to have dinner and listen to the monthly speaker. They introduced all the new visitors and I was surprised at how shocked the other moms were when they learned I am having triplets. I guess triplets aren't as common as my doctor led me to believe. In the expectant mom group, there were only two of us pregnant with triplets. There were more triplet moms in the other groups, but I am not sure how many. The majority of the moms there have or are having twins. All in all, it was very helpful to get some ideas and motivating to meet all the other moms who have multiples and have done just fine.

I had my 10 week sonogram yesterday and first I just have to say... I GRADUATED TO EXTERNAL SONOGRAMS! YAY! After going through infertility for so long, I have had like a million sonograms, all of which were not external! It was so nice to be able to graduate. Okay, so enough of that... All the babies look wonderful; they all have great heartbeats and are all a good size. The sonographer said they seem bigger than she expected, but I am not exactly sure I understand her thinking because they all measured 9 weeks 6 days rather than 10+ weeks . Also, two of them were moving around so much she had a hard time getting their heartbeats at first. It was really neat to see them squirming around. She said they must be feeling really good to be moving this early. Although, I am thinking that is pretty normal because I read that with multiples they do everything at a faster rate than a typical singleton would. I just turned my scanner on and realized it is acting up again. For some reason our computer isn't recognizing it. I will have to have Craig show me what he did to make it work last time since it seems this is going to happen frequently. I'll post them on here later tonight or tomorrow. These pictures are really cool too because they are the first ones where you can actually see their limbs forming.

We have our first perinatal (the high risk doctor) appointment in two weeks, and they feel pretty certain they will be able to tell us what the sexes are. Isn't that crazy? Because it is a high pregnancy, the peri has better high-tech equipment and they look at things differently. Supposedly this test is 85-90% accurate, but I don't think I am going to run out and start buying stuff until we can actually see little girl or little boy parts. Apparently with this type of testing, the peri looks at the spine and the tail bud and whether they are parallel to each other or not determines the sex. I am not sure...I don't quite understand it yet. That was just the brief explanation my OB gave me.

As always, I am leaving you with my 10 week belly picture. I don't really think I have grown any from the 9 week picture. I guess my growing goes in spurts.

Nothin much...just a few updates

Hey guys! Its been a little while since I last posted; I don't have a whole lot to report. I am still doing about the same...feeling decent, no vomiting, just hungry, tired and overwhelmed.

I finished the Summer semester of school last week, completing 9 more hours, so that was another huge sense of accomplishment. I have decided not to take any classes this Fall to avoid possibly not being able to finish due to bedrest or any other complications. I am lacking 18 hours before I will be finished, but I guess if it is in God's plans for me to finish, I will finish.

I have my weekly belly shot for you to see. It probably doesn't look too much different from the previous one. It's funny...some days I feel like I have grown a ton; other days, I feel like I am not growing at all. It has taken me a few days to get this post out, so you will be seeing another belly shot plus more sono pictures on Thursday or Friday (if I don't get them posted right away). My next sono appointment is Thursday.

9 weeks

We went mini van shopping this weekend. We looked at several, and were most interested in the Dodge Grand Caravan for its size and storage capacity. We test drove a Caravan home for the weekend. We liked it a lot except for a few things, but I think almost every car is going to have something about it you don't like. The dealership is offering a really good price on this particular van, and we were tempted to jump on the deal, but decided to wait like we had originally planned. We didn't want to buy anything too soon; we will wait until some time in the second trimester before we start making major purchases.

We also went window shopping for baby furniture and strollers. It is a shame more stores don't have at least some kind of triple stroller in their store for people to look at and test it out. I am not a big fan of buying things online without first being able to see them and check them out in person. I am having some mixed thoughts about the stroller right now. I thought it would be a must, but I am hearing from other people that they hardly ever used theirs because they didn't get out much with triplets, or that their triple stroller was too heavy to push with three kids in it. M.O.M.'s, what are your thoughts?

I am going to go with a friend to a M.O.M.'s meeting this week so I am sure that will be a good way to meet other M.O.M.'s, get plugged in and get a few pointers from them so I won't be so clueless.

Craig finished putting the gazebo up on the patio yesterday. It has taken a while because he had to extend the patio a little first. Plus, this heat is murder to work in. But, we finally got it up and it looks so nice. It will be so nice to be able to sit outside without the sun beating down on us. I've taken a picture so you guys can see my hubby's hard work and see how much nicer it looks.

Well, that is about all I know for now. I'll post again later this week.

The BIG 3-0

Friday, I turned 30 and we had a big party to celebrate. Craig got the whole thing organized so I didn't have to worry about planning my own birthday party. I actually wasn't expecting a party because he asked me about it a few weeks before, and I told him we could just skip it since he might not be able to be there due to work. Craig was able to take a vacation day to ensure his presence at the party, so he got everything in the works. I wasn't aware of the party at the time, he told me about it a couple of days later. I think everyone did a wonderful job planning and coordinating everything considering how last minute it all was. We had a great time! There was about 25 of us including the kids. It was fun to get both mine and Craig's families together along with Kim's family. We had fun visiting and playing with the kids, and the food and cake was wonderful! Not everyone could come - my sister, who lives in Pennsylvania, couldn't make it; and Craig's dad (he had to work). So, since we had so much food left over, and because Dad couldn't be here Friday, we continued the party on Saturday. We didn't do much...but relax...which was perfect. Craig and Byron finished the patio and then we took the kids swimming at the community pool. We had a great time both days and I want to thank everyone again for coming and helping bring this party together. Also, thank you for the gifts and cards!

BTW, for some reason 5 or 6 pictures are out of order, so some of the captions may not make sense. I have no idea how this happened because they were uploaded in the correct order.

8 week sono and belly shot

Good news! We had our 8 week sono today and all the babies look perfect! They all have good, similar heart beats...and are all measuring close in size. Everything else looks great... Cervix looks good, the fluid that was showing up in the last sono is now gone, there is no sign of a hematoma... I have also been worried that there may be another baby hidden in there, but after having three different people do my sonograms since I found out I am pregnant, it has been confirmed that there are only three... ONLY three?!? Isn't that the under-statement of the year? We had our consultation with the doctor and we were able to get all of our questions answered, so that was a huge load off. She told us we are shooting for 32 weeks. I had read online, that the average triplet pregnancy is 35 weeks, so I was a little shocked when she said we are shooting for 3 weeks earlier than I originally anticipated. Yikes! Obviously, she would love for me to go 35 or 36 weeks, but that isn't likely, so our realistic goal will be 32 weeks.

Our sono pictures look about the same as the previous pictures, but I thought you might like to see them anyway. This is baby A at the bottom of the pile. She said a lot of times this baby is the most demanding. Interesting...

The baby on the right is baby B, and the baby on the far left is baby C.

Now, for the updated belly shot... You have to let me know if you can tell a difference. I can see...well feel, a drastic difference. I have only gained two pounds, but it is amazing how much you can feel two pounds in your clothes, although I can see a little change as well. Granted, this picture was taken more up close, so it may be hard to compare.

I go back in two weeks, so I will have more pictures and updates for you then, but I will continue to keep you updated on everything else from now and then. Again, thank you so much for your thoughts and prayers. The love and support we have received has been such a blessing to us.
