We made it to the 2nd trimester!

Today was such a fun and exciting day! First off, I am officially in my 2nd trimester! Yay! We had our first perinatal appointment this morning. We really liked the peri my OB referred us to. She was very friendly, bubbly, knowledgeable and just seemed to sincerely enjoy her job which makes us very happy. She has this HUGE flat screen T.V. (probably 36 in.) mounted on the wall so I don't have to strain my neck to see her monitor. It was great! They almost looked life-sized on that T.V.

All the babies look great. They all are measuring the same...12 weeks 1 day. All the measurements she took to check for potential problems like down syndrome came back normal. They also all have good heartbeats. It was so neat to see them moving around. I saw their movement at my last appointment, but this was the first time Craig was able to see it and he had a grin on his face from ear to ear. Oh...and we even saw one of the babies kicking the other baby in the head...I can't remember who was kicking whom, but it was so cute!

Dr. Koster looked to see if she could tell what their sexes are and she is 90% sure of the sex of the babies...

TWO GIRLS AND ONE BOY!!!!

Baby A is predicted to be a boy! He is leading the pack, at the bottom, closest to the cervix and currently expected to be born first.

Baby B is predicted to be a girl, and is expected to be born second.

Baby C is predicted to be the 2nd girl, and is expected to be born last.

Of course, their positions could change, but for now our son is leading our trio. Baby A & B liked posing for the camera, as you can probably tell, they are looking right at us. A couple of times they had their hands up in the air like they were waving. Oh and we were even able to see and count all five fingers on one of their hands. It is just such an awesome feeling watching them kick their legs and wave their arms around. We are so thankful that they are doing so well.

Our second appointment for the day, we went for a follow-up appointment with Dr. Nivens, my OB. All we did was check my blood pressure, weight, urine and I had a little blood drawn to test for cystic fibrosis. My blood pressure was great, BUT... my weight is a concern. Dr. Nivens is concerned I am not gaining enough weight. Apparently, I have only gained 1 pound. I could have sworn I started out less than they said which would put me at gaining 4 pounds. You would think with all this tummy stretching, there would be more weight gain than that. She is recommending that I see a nutritionist. Who would have ever thought being thin and not knowing how to gain weight nutritiously would be a bad thing. She wants me gaining around 25 pounds by week 25 which is only 13 weeks away. That is kinda scary when I think about being currently 12 weeks pregnant and only gaining one measly pound. I know most don't put on much weight in the first trimester though. Nivens is a little concerned about pre-term labor so I am going to have to figure something out. And just so everyone knows, I don't have any emotional hangups gaining the weight, I just don't know how... I am not a big eater. It is hard to just up and change your entire eating habits you know. If anybody has any good ideas, please let me know.

On another note, I ordered the cribs today! Yeay! That can be checked off my list. Now I am going to try to focus on getting some kind of idea of how I want to do the nursery. If anybody knows of a good baby nursery website for multiples, please let me know. I bought a baby nursery magazine, but I don't really like any of their ideas. I've looked online some and found some cute ideas. Also, I think I have the bedding picked out, so I will use that as my color inspiration for the room. We aren't really doing any theme...I am not a theme type of person.

I also have my weekly boring belly shot to leave you with. Maybe I should post those first, so you won't be left with my belly shot in your head. :) Last week, I think Friday, I literally could feel my belly grew just in a matter of hours. It was so crazy! I know it wasn't something I ate that made me feel full because I hadn't eaten in a while. It just grew really fast!

Oh...BTW, we decided not to sell the Jeep and decided to sell Craig's Saturn instead. Just so you know in case you know somebody who was interested in the Jeep. Maybe they will be interested in the Saturn... :) It will be a lot cheaper to buy!! :) For those of you who have seen it, you will know why. :) Not that it is a piece of junk, it is just older and has more miles on it. It's a good car though.

Awwwww. I will never forget the day we found out the sexes of our babies.
Aren't you even more excited???

Eat! Eat! Eat! Drinking Boost is a great way to fit in the calories.

Have fun!

Congrats on your mixed trio! How exciting for you! I am so amazed that your doc was able to tell you SO early on what the sexes were! I'm pretty sure that with my trio I waited until around 18 weeks, and with my twins it was around 15 weeks. 12 weeks is wonderful!! And congrats on making it to your 2nd trimester, milestones are EVERYTHING during HOM pregnancies! As for your diet, I found the book When You're Expecting Twins, Triplets, or Quads by Dr Barbara Luke really helpful. Good luck to you!!

Congrats on the 2nd trimester! I found your blog tonight and wanted to say congratulations! We were also told that we were having 2 girls and 1 boy but that changed on our next ultrasound! I had 2 boys and 1 girl. Good luck with the rest of your pregnancy. I hope it is uneventful!

Hi Amy,

Wow! I can't believe how early the doc was willing to make a 90% guess on the sexes! We had to wait until 17 weeks to find out...congrats on 3 healthy looking kiddos. So, on the gaining weight stuff... I also got my hands on Dr. Luke's book, but it wasn't until after I was in the hospital, so it was too late. I only gained maybe 35 pounds in my pregnancy and I know how hard it is to eat. I would recommend just trying to add calories any which way you can. If you drink milk, maybe switch to whole milk. Add that extra butter, sour cream, cheese, salad dressing etc! And enjoy the dessert you always tried to limit yourself on....peanut butter was one of my fave snacks when I was pregnant. I know someone mentioned Boost, but I hated the taste. Carnation Instant Beakfast can be added to whole milk and tastes better. Anyway...love the updates!

Awwww, the pics are great! I can't believe how much detail you can see already. So glad you made it through your first trimester, we'll just keep praying that everything continues to go smoothly and those babies will be here before you know it! :)

Good luck w/the weight gain!!!

Congrats on your future additions to your family! I found your blog through my friend Suzanne Steece and wanted to let you know I am a mom of b/g twins born last October. For their nursery, I ordered my bedding from Rosenberry Rooms. They have some great ideas. For weight gain, I would have to follow every meal with protein bars and Slim Fast shakes for extra calories. NOT FUN when you do not feel hungry...but those babies need everything you can give them. Good luck & I will keep checking in on you guys!

I just found your blog today! We have 1 boy (Baby A) and 2 girls (Babies B & C) also. Sounds like you are doing great!! Keep up the good work, triplet Mama.

I second Jessica's suggestion about the Barbara Luke book. I found it so helpful during my triplet pregnancy.
